Photographer

In 1968, Brian Harris started photography at school, photographing sports days and other school events. His father built him a proper darkroom in the rear garden and, accompanied by his sister who took cash with the orders, Brian started photographing weddings and babies and social events. He also started photographing football matches for the local papers and in 1969 joined Fox Photos. In 1976, Brian joined The Times where he covered news and features, photographing the end of the civil war in Rhodesia, working in Northern Ireland and in 1984 covering the famine in Sudan.

In 1986, Brian joined The Independent and covered just about everything including three Presidential election campaigns in the USA, elections in most European countries including spending many months covering the fall of communism then the rise of the former eastern block nations. In 1999, he went freelance and sells mainly to the editorial market via Rex features and Alamy. He was commissioned by the Commonwealth War Graves Commission (CWGC) to photograph world wide their cemeteries and memorials for a book and multiple exhibitions to celebrate the 90th anniversary of the CWGC in May 2007.
