Tango Tickertape

Although it wasnít the FA Cup Final, to Charlton Athletic fans this quarter-final tie away at Manchester United in 1994 seemed like it. Only ten years after the Club nearly ceased to exist, this picture evokes the pride and the passion of travelling football fans. At the time, Mr Tango was a bare-chested figure in a soft drink TV ad, and the featured fan in his guise with a mate donning a sombrero expressed the title for me

Using a documentary reportage approach, with an eye for humour, Steven has been taking photographs capturing the mood and atmosphere surrounding the game of football at all levels since 1981. His website features a selection of his work which has been published extensively in local news media.

In 1998 Steven was a main contributor to the book ‘Welling To Wembley’, which documented the triumph of Charlton Athletic Football Club in the play-off final for the Premiership at England’s national football stadium. Steven continues to work in the football-themed field and also in PR.
